About Noah Chen
Hi, I'm a painter, a curator, a mom of three and a teacher... among other things.
I studied painting at the Kaye Teachers' Seminar in Beer-Sheva, Israel in the late 1990s and have been painting and teaching ever since. I paint in oil and I find my paintings deal a lot with balance. balance between figurative and abstract and between reality (I am cautious with my use of the word realism) and imagination. In the past few years my subject matter has been about childhood, children, broken old dolls which originally belonged to my mother and aunt as well as still-lifes and landscapes. I also make woodcut prints.
I have a masters degree in curating from Ben-Gurion University and wrote a thesis about haptic aspects of the skin in modern and contemporary British painting.
